Selena Chávez, the proud daughter of Colombian immigrants, grew up in rural Tennessee where she witnessed firsthand the racial and economic challenges faced by communities of color and the resilience with which they confronted these obstacles. These experiences fueled her passion for social change and community empowerment.
Selena is a social impact practitioner with a track record of mobilizing resources and fueling community-centered initiatives. In Tennessee, she led grassroots efforts for immigrant communities, raising over $182,000 to support deportation defense, food assistance, and disaster relief. Building on her social impact commitment, she has contributed to the development and implementation of regional programs in the Arab world in partnership with the European Union and BMZ. Selena has also facilitated branding and strategic communication workshops for social enterprises in the Arab world and Latin America, while leading critical conversations on justice and equality. Deeply invested in local leadership, Selena has further served her community as a board member for YMCA Chattanooga and Kiva Chattanooga.
Outside her professional work, she channels her creativity into photojournalism, capturing stories that reflect the immutable power of the communities she serves.
